In President Obama’s weekly address, he called upon Congress to reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund, noting that “nearly every single county in America has benefited from this program.” RFF’s Margaret Walls discussed in a blog post what she called “a real opportunity to improve the fund … through the reauthorization process.” She suggests “permanent dedicated funding versus annual appropriations, … striking a balance between the federal and state programs,” and notes the importance of “meeting the land conservation and recreation needs of the twenty-first century” in light of increasing urbanization and climate change.
