Research helped inform the legislative process during the 117th Congress, which passed several laws—most recently, the Inflation Reduction Act—that changed the state of climate policy in the United States. Now, election season and the midterms are over, and the 118th Congress is set to begin its first session on January 3, 2023. Ahead of the coming session, Kristin Hayes, senior director for research and policy engagement at Resources for the Future, talks about the continuing importance of research for the implementation of recent climate policy and the development of future climate policy.
